A West Liberty man suffered serious injuries in a one-vehicle accident on State Route 245 just west of West Liberty around 12:15 this morning.

The Marysville Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that Ernest Sharp, 52, was driving a 1985 Mercury Cougar westbound when he drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree.

Sharp was transported to Grant Medical Center from the scene by Careflight.

He is listed in serious condition.

Sharp was not wearing a safety belt and he was trapped in the vehicle.

The patrol is investigating whether or not alcohol was a factor.

West Liberty Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
