The 10th Annual Relay for Life in Logan County is set to kick-off Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. This will mark the first time that the event is held at the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center citing the flatter track, the intimate feel, and full kitchen on-site as reasons for moving to a different location.

In addition to all of the festivities that Relay for Life will bring to the county, there will be a number of road closures due to the 5K run taking place on Saturday. (Audio interview included.)

The 2008 Logan County Relay for Life promises to be a weekend of both fun and fundraising.

The local theme this year is "Through the Years" which compliments the national Relay for Life theme of "Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back." The co-chairpersons for the event are Penny Higgins and Marilyn Angelo. They hope to raise around $158,000 at this year's event.

This year's relay runs from 6:00 p.m. Friday night until 12:00 noon Saturday.

Honorary co-chairs this year include Penny Butts, Kim Davis, and Mike Beelman. All honorary co-chairs are cancer survivors. In addition to recognizing these cancer survivors, straw hats with a purple ribbon will be presented to each survivor in an effort to raise melanoma awareness.

Davis, who's superintendent of the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center, spoke with Bill Tipple about the event.

Listen to Kim Davis talk about the Relay for Life, her story as a survivor, and why she wanted to see Ohio Hi-Point host the event.

Corporate sponsor Mary Rutan Hospital will be serving a survivor's breakfast Saturday morning with additional tickets selling for $5 each.

Also, the Logan County Engineer's Office announces that the Relay for Life JK5K Run on Saturday at 8:50 a.m. beginning at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center will be closing some roadways to traffic. Limited access will be maintained for local residents only and delays should be expected.

Roadways to be closed from Ohio Hi-Point Career Center are: East on State Route 540, to South on County Road 25 to the Folsom Fruit Farm.

Please contact the Relay for Life organization for more information.

The Logan County Engineer's Office apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
