| Village of Russells Point to add 3.0 mill levy in November |

Mr. Yoder provided the council with a certificate of estimated property tax revenue for a 3.0 mill levy to be on the November 2008 ballot. The operation levy for Police Protection is expected to generate approximately $94,000. (Audio interview included.) Listen to Mayor Iiams discuss the upcoming levy. In additional news, the board approved the mayor's report, the zoning report and the EMS report, noting that a new ambulance was due any time and that 87 runs were reported in May with higher numbers expected in June. The council also approved the following ordinances: 081017 - for the preparation of a tax budget as required by the State of Ohio. 081018 - for U.S. mailbox location restrictions with corporation limits. 081019 - for appropriations of current street department expenditures for the current year. It was noted that the next Village of Russells Point Neighborhood Watch meeting will be July 17th and that there is currently a coordinator and treasurer's position available. The police department is seeking approval for an equipment grant, in which the village would receive a thermal imaging device. In new business the board approved Mayor Iiams request for a public notice for an alley running parallel to Main Street near the Huntington Bank to be vacated in order for Buckeye Investments to move utilities. A public hearing is scheduled for August 18th at 7:00 p.m. in reference to this. Lastly, it was announced to council that after 26 plus years of public service, board member Jackie Cooper will be retiring August 4th. The next Village of Russells Point meeting will be held August 4th with a retirement ceremony for Cooper to be held after the meeting. |
