The first night of harness racing at the Logan County Fair honored long-time local horse supporter Carroll Wallace.
Wallace passed away in February. His grandson opened the racing by singing the National Anthem. Two Signature Series races were held in his name. Round About of New Jersey driven by Ron Steck won the first Signature Series race for 4-year olds and up. Kipling Avenue of Columbus driven by Ron Steck won the second Signature Series race.
And Robinmeblind owned by Don Williams of Quincy took first in the 2-year old Filly Pace second division. Harness racing will wrap up Thursday night starting at 7 pm. For the past few years the Logan County Fair has held two nights of harness racing, down from three nights in the past. Senior Fair Board members say they wanted more entertainment variety like concerts, motorcycle races and this year bull riding, along with opportunities to bring in more money.
