Members met at Ohio Caverns and were able to partake in a question and answer forum with Bellefontaine Mayor Adam Brannon, who chairs the Health District Levy Committee. (Audio and video interviews included.) Also on hand to answer questions was Health Commissioner Dr. Boyd Hoddinott and County Commissioner John Bayliss. Mayor Brannon pointed out that the proposed 10-year, 1-mill replacement levy would cost owners of a $100,000 home approximately $37 a year if the levy passes. Commissioner Bayliss spoke about the Ohio Revised Code and how the state mandates townships and municipalities to provide health services to its residents. The health district provides 49 programs to the people of Logan County, including birth and death certificates, health advisories, food safety programs, environmental health programs, WIC, public health nursing and home health, just to name a few. In the last election, the levy failed 56-44 percent. According to Dr. Hoddinott, if the levy were to fail again, positions would be cut, grants would be lost and services would be delayed or eliminated. Township Association President Don Bradley says another failed levy will drastically impact each township or village in the county. Bradley then offered his support to Mayor Brannon. Listen to Bradley explain his position of support. In additional activities, the association was told by President Bradley that Terry Bell of Jefferson County was requesting endorsements to enact legislation by the Ohio Township Association about damage on roads caused by heavy trucks. Twenty-six counties have already endorsed Bell's request. Todd Shreve of the Logan County Sheriff's Office was on hand to demonstrate his K-9 Unit dog. The Czech trained Shepherd displayed his talents for finding narcotics and recovered foreign objects that could have potentially been used in a crime. The next health board levy meeting will be held July 31st at 6:30 p.m. at the Bellefontaine City Building. The next township association meeting will be held in November. |
