Longtime local Habitat for Humanity leader Dean Horn was the featured speaker. He told club members about the organization's mission, which is to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness around the world. (Audio interview included.) Horn also talked in-depth about the Habitat Restore that he helped start just over a year ago. He said the Restore is a way to reuse donated construction supplies, appliances, and many other items that often get thrown away. The items are then either sold or used in Habitat homes. Horn spoke with our Robert Bender about the Restore after the meeting. Listen to him explain the Restore. The Restore is located at 1229 South Main Street in Bellefontaine. The phone number is 592-2827. Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. Habitat has built more than 250,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter. Our local chapter was founded in 1993 and fifteen homes have been built across Logan County. Todd McCormick, who's curator/director of the Logan County Historical Society, is scheduled to speak at next week's Kiwanis Club meeting. |
