Lindsey Wyan, currently a teacher with Benjamin Logan, will be filling one of three open positions due to resignations accepted by the board. Wyan will be making the move to Riverside next month as their new Business/Technology Teacher. (Audio interview included.) Also approved with a salary of $10,000 was a part-time athletic director contract to John Graher. School board member Skip Oliver announced Graher's new position with enthusiasm, noting that he brought with him "tremendous experience." Graher was the Riverside head football coach from 1993 to 2000 and holds two Ohio Football Coach of the Year Awards ('95 and '04). Graher said he was "honored and humbled" to be coming back to Riverside. A three-year contract was approved for Superintendent Bernie Pachmayer. Listen to Board President Jim Cox talk about Superintendent Pachmayer's contract and challenges. Other employment contracts extended are as follows: Molly Johnson, high school secretary; Lori Longbrake, education aide; Jo Wilgus, educational aide; Sharon Wheler, Gifted Coordinator; Bruce Lemley, School Psychologist; Jan Smith, Literacy Consultant; Patricia Melssen, High School Guidance Counselor; Connie Beatty, Elementary Guidance Counselor; Karen Wisse, vocation home economics/FCCLA instructor; Jennifer Hopton, high school instrumental instructor; Krista Albright, Vo-Ag/FFA instructor; Kellea Wilkinson and Diana Howell, co-elementary student council advisors; Kellea Wilkinson and Dawn Core, co-Title I coordinators; Teresa Thuel and Jennifer Walls, middle school student council advisors; Jennifer Hopton, middle school music, marching/concert band instructor, pep band/jazz band instructor and solo/ensemble instrumental instructor. In other news, Superintendent Pachmayer acknowledged that the pre-school classroom has been relocated to Riverside school grounds. The board will meet in special session August 11th at 5:00 p.m. with legal council to discuss the contract for the operation of the pre-school program. The board also received a report on the building, indicating that repairs had been made to the gutters, flashing, and leaks in the building. Damaged ceiling tiles will be replaced and monitored along with lights, air vents, and the water softener for any potential problems. Lastly, a Riverside parent acknowledged her frustration with a truancy letter that she says she did not receive, which resulted in a hearing in Logan County due to her son's violation of compulsory attendance laws. The next regular meeting will be held on Thursday, August 21st at 7 p.m. in the school auditeria. |
