Headlining the meeting was discussion of allocation of funding provided by the Ohio Public Works Economic Stimulus Package. (Video and audio interview included).
House Bill 554 passed by the state legislature in June, will provide money to the county by doubling the state improvement package. This one time only funding of $356,360.30 will be split by the city of Bellefontaine, villages, townships and the county to provide paving of public roadways. Watch Scott Coleman discuss the economic stimulus package funding. The city of Bellefontaine will be processing their application separate from the townships and villages, with an October 1st deadline for completion. Coleman talks about what the engineers office needs by August 20th. Once applications are received, the Logan County Engineers office will then need to send staff out to measure roadways and proceed with the application process with a December 15th deadline to the Ohio Public Works Commission. Sales tax funding will also still be available to the county and may be used as a local match. According to Coleman, there has been a "41% increase in cost in the last four years for construction jobs," and the cost of asphalt continues to increase. Taking this into consideration, funding dollars are small, but entities are encouraged to utilize the monies. |
