The board also heard from Police Chief Ron Murray who offered explanation for phone cell routing and explained to the board that officers do not carry cell phones with them when dealing with a call or a traffic accident. (Video interview included.) Murray also spoke about coverage for the Labor Day festivities at Lions Park, including the parade route. Listen to Murray discuss the parade route and traffic. Murray went on to say he expects anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 people in attendance at the festival. The board will be receiving a policy from the police chief at their next meeting to include drastic measures for fuel reduction. According to Murray, the force has already reduced usage of cars and increased foot and bike patrols around the village. In other news, the board approved the following: Resolution 2008-R7 for usage of funds from the Ohio Public Works Grant. Ordinance 2008-08 for a $17,000 tank truck to be used by the Water Department to haul lime. Chip and sealing in the village this week to cost $4,507. Review of funding for a street sweeper. Denise Seger attended the meeting as a community member interested in an upcoming seat on the board. Seger, originally from Piqua, was in the U.S. Navy for 5 years. She was stationed in Naples, Italy and Little Creek, Virginia. Mayor Greg Hostetler signed into effect a proclamation declaring September 17th-23rd as "Constitution Week," in honor of the 221st anniversary of the framing of the U.S. Constitution. The next West Liberty Village Council meeting will be September 8th at 7:30 p.m. |
