Bellefontaine won the varsity boys meet and Indian Lake won the varsity girls meet. Chieftain standout Mica Hatcher was the top overall finisher. Team and individual results: High School Girls Team Score: 1st Indian Lake 34, 2nd WLS 48, 3rd Benjamin Logan 61, 4th Bellefontaine 90 The Lady Lakers had 7 runners in the Top 15. Leading the way for the girls were sophomore Rachel Watt 1st with a time of 21:04, senior Aubrey Gardner (6th with a time of 22:20), freshman Ashley Albright (8th with a time of 23:04), sophomore Emily Gardner (10th with a time of 23:17), freshman Kayla Beltz (12th with a time of 23:20), sophomore Melissa Bell (14th with a time of 23:48) and senior Sarah Zbacnik (15th with a time of 24:02). Also competing for the Lady Lakers were sophomore Robyn Zwiebel (18th with a time of 24:23), senior Sarah Bell (22nd with a time of 24:39), freshman Ashley Kawalec (30th with a time of 26:44) and sophomore Haley Tron (32nd with a time of 27:51). The boys team finished 4th out of 5 teams. Leading the way for the boys were sophomore Neill Schwieterman (17th with a time of 20:26), senior Robb Long (33rd with a time of 22:26), senior Kendall Sullivan (41st with a time of 23:22), senior Jason Bryce (49th with a time of 25:37), sophomore Nick Bozman (50th with a time of 25:41), and senior Chase Szima (54th with a time of 29:23). The Lakers will be back in action Saturday as they compete at The Greenville Treaty City Invite.
The Indian Lake Middle School Girls' Cross Country Team placed 4th at Tuesday's meet. Team scores were: West Liberty-Salem 15, Benjamin Logan 70, Bellefontaine 71, Indian Lake 97. There were 52 girls that ran in this race.
Placing for the Lady Laker harriers were: Ericka Embry with a 7th place medal (15:17), Sydney Bollinger 17th (16:16), Courtney Stroope 28th (16:52), Allysia Altick 37th (17:59), Shelby McMann 42nd (18:59), Karen Miller 47th (20:31), Brayden Downs 48th (21:39), Brandi Niebuer 50th (24:21), and Amber Kawalec 51st (24:45).
Courtney Stroope achieved a new PR at this meet.
Running for the Indian Lake Middle School Boys' Team were: Bradley McIntire with a 3rd place medal (12:49), Klay Nichols 10th (14:38), and Jacob Frost 22nd (17:55). There were 25 boys that ran in this race.
Their next meet is September 6th at the Tiffin Carnival.

Coach's Comments: "We are not 100% healthy right now so I was very pleased with the team's performance. We really worked well as a team and we're showing a lot of improvement. We hope to back in full force soon. The Indian Lake girls looked great today and Rachel Watt had a strong race. It's always good to be challenged by a team of that caliber."
The Big Orange jr. high girls remained undefeated and scored another perfect score of 15 points to win the Logan County title. The Big Orange placed 6 girls in the top 6 en route to their second perfect score of the season. Jr. High girls team score:

The Benjamin Logan high school boys cross country team placed second with 52 points at the Logan County meet. The boys had the best races of the year with 10 out of 16 runners running their best times of the year. Leading the way for the team was Logan Leis with a second place finish in 17:53. Tyler Ahle had a strong finish placing 8th in 19:12. Also scoring for the team were Cody Rees in 15th place in 20:15, Zach Creamer in 16th place in 20:17, and Steven Watson in 20th place in 20:49. Rounding out the varsity placers were Derek Hatmaker in 24th place in 21:59 and Jarred Campbell in 25th place in 20:59.
Also running for the team were Kyle Vandyke in 27th place in 21:15, Jake Penhorwood in 28th place in 21:16, Evan Daughtery in 30th place in 21:46, Joel Penhorwood in 32nd place in 21:27, Paul Larsen in 35th place in 22:51, Theron Glauner in 42nd place in 23:26, Wes Stover in 45th place in 24:12, and Drake Brunner in 48th place in 25:07.
The Benjamin Logan junior high boys cross country team placed second with 47 points at the Logan County meet. The boys ran well with six of them running their best times of the year. The team was lead by David Wenger with a gutsy performance to edge out another runner to capture 1st place in a time of 12:02. Scoring for the team were Trent Rees in 8th place in 14:29, Adam Kavanagh in 15th place in 15:58, Dan Kumher in 16th place in 16:05, Sean Daughtery in 19th place in 16:45, David Watson in 20th place in 16:57, Logan Glauner in 23rd place in 18:15, and Joe Kumher in 25th place in 22:43. The Benjamin Logan varsity girls finished in third place. Courtney Forsythe finished third with a time of 22:06. Vanessa Wilkins was 15th (22:14), Mackenzie Roebuck 16th (24:15), Mary Kenoyer 17th (24:23), and Hillary Lantz 20th (24:45). The Benjamin Logan Jr. High girls came in second place. Logan Dunn came in 8th. Morgan Allen was 9th, Lauren Johns 13th, Madison Leis 22nd, and Katelyn Brogan 24th.
The Bellefontaine Middle School cross country teams competed at the Logan County Invitational on Tuesday.
The boys team finished 3rd out of 3 teams. Finishing in the top seven for the Chieftains was Cody Proffitt with a time of 14:29. Other top runners for BMS were Collen Pulfer in 13th with a time of 15:53, Patrick Tarasiewicz in 14th with a time of 15:55, Blake Olson in 17th with a time of 16:36, and Landyn Butler in 24th with a time of 18:21.
The Middle School Lady Chiefs finished 3rd out of 4 teams, falling to Benjamin Logan by one point for second place. Leading the way for the Chiefs was Ashley Burkhammer in 12th with a time of 15:50, Sierra McGranahan in 15th with a time of 16:04, Darby Newman in 16th with a time of 16:07, Alyssa Strickland in 18th with a time of 16:17, and Katie Vetorino in 19th with a time of 16:25. Other strong performance were ran by Sarah Phillips in 20th and Brooke Rutledge in 21st. The BMS cross country teams will be at the Greenville Invitational on Saturday, August 30th. |
