Michael Hansen of the Ohio Seismic Network says preliminary data show that the 2.9 magnitude quake hit between Botkins and Anna about 9:06 p.m.

Anna's administrator, Jon Hulsmeyer, says the quake lasted about five seconds and was accompanied by a loud boom. A sheriff's dispatcher says there were no reports of damage.

Shelby County is where Ohio's largest earthquake took place in 1937. The 5.4 quake toppled chimneys, gravestones, and a school in Anna.

Ohio's Lake County in northeast Ohio experienced a number of small earthquakes in 2006. Hansen says the sometimes-active region around Shelby County hadn't had any quakes in several years.
