Tigers compete in volleyball, golf, football, and soccer Print E-mail

tiger_logo_on_10-07.jpgThe West Liberty-Salem varsity volleyball team moved to 11 and 1 in the OHC, 16 and 3 overall, after defeating Northeastern Thursday evening.

Paige Parker with 17 kills, 9 digs and 15 points with 4 aces helped the Lady Tigers win in three games 25-11, 25-17 and 25-20.

Other contributors included:

Kayla Peterson with 11 kills, 23 assists and 2 blocks. (Photos included.)

Becka Peterson will 11 kills, 14 digs and 4 points.

Tessa Bailey with 18 assists, 6 points with 3 aces and 4 digs.

Danielle King with 9 points with 3 aces and 12 digs.

The Tigers will face rival Triad on Saturday morning in a Volley for the Cure match.

The JV Lady Tigers also were victorious beating Northeastern in 2 games, 25-9 and 25-10.

The JV Tigers record is now 10 and 9 overall.

WL-S District Golf Tournament:

West Liberty-Salem's Ben Rutan competed in the Division II Boys District golf tournament at Weatherwax on Thursday.

The sophomore carded an 86 and missed qualifying for the state tournament by 8 strokes.

Coach Leichty said, "Ben handled the pressure well. He had two holes down the stretch that took him out of contention for the final two individual spots. The experience he gained from this will help him become a better golfer for next season."

Rutan helped lead the Tigers to a 17-3 regular season.

WL-S 8th grade football:

It was a close call Thursday evening as the West Liberty-Salem 8th grade football team met their first defeat on a last second Hail Mary from Springfield Catholic Central who defeated the Tigers 28-22.

Nick Daniels scored twice for the Tigers and Travis Mayse also added a score.

Tyler LeVan added two, two-point conversions.

The Tigers move to 4 and 1 on the season and play at Cedarville next Thursday.

WL-S soccer:

The West Liberty-Salem varsity girls soccer team edged visiting Northeastern 2-1 Thursday.

Mackenzie Gantz and Cristina Gresh each scored.

Alexa Hormann recorded six saves.

The Tigers are 5-9-1.
