In new business, Mayor Greg Iiams discussed his attendance along with zoning officer Don Walters at the Logan County Commissioners meeting last week.

Mayor Iiams discussed the proposed new sewer line within the village corporation and what that will mean to the village. (Video interview included.)

Watch Mayor Iiams discuss the sewer project.

Iiams pointed out that concerns about streets being torn up were resolved as commissioners said that the new forced sewer main would be installed underground and not disrupt traffic.

Iiams also informed the board that the commissioners do not have all funding for the project at this time and that the anticipated start date would be sometime in the spring.

Also in attendance at the meeting was Indian Lake School's Superintendent Dr. Bill McGlothlin.

McGlothlin presented information to the board concerning the upcoming renewal levy.

The 5.7 mills renewal is a reduction of 1.9 mills and will run for 5 years.

McGlothlin pointed out that there would be a $400,000 loss of state monies for tangible property tax if the levy did not pass.

Indian Lake Schools has already trimmed operation costs including 8 certified and 7 classified positions equating to $500,000 in the last year, with an additional $250,000 reduction anticipated for this year.

Russells Point Police Chief Freyhof also presented information to the board on the police levy in November.

The 3.0 mill levy would generate $94,000 annually and would cost a homeowner of a $100,000 home $91.87 year.

The levy would allow for an additional full time officer and help alleviate problems with service calls that have doubled and in some cases tripled causing a slower response time and reducing protection.

Council also approved to have an ordinance written for notification of registration for prior sexual offenders. The new local ordinance would be consistent with the state law.

Offices will be closed Columbus Day, which is October 13th.

The next Village of Russells Point Council meeting will be October 20th at 7:00 p.m.
