Lakers and Tigers win league titles in volleyball Print E-mail

indian_lake_logo.jpgTwo local varsity volleyball teams clinched league titles with wins last night.

Indian Lake defeated Northwestern 25-19, 25-20, 25-19 to win the CBC Madriver Division title outright.

The Lakers are 19-2 overall and 9-0 in the CBC.

It was Senior Night for the Lakers and the 5 seniors turned in big performances.

Brooke Walton had 4 aces and 14 assists.

Kirsten Brademeyer recorded 9 assists and 9 digs.

Heather Allen had 10 digs.

Devin Grandi tallied 12 kills and 19 digs.

Sara Tevis had 3 kills and 15 digs.

The Lakers play at Benjamin Logan on Thursday.

The JV Lakers won 22-25, 25-19, 25-19 to go to 17-4 on the year.

Leanne Reichert had 7 aces.

Whitney Hollon recorded 9 kills and 10 digs.

Maci Jones had 9 kills and 14 digs.

Kayla Thieman contributed 7 kills.

West Liberty-Salem celebrated Senior Night by securing a share of the league title.

WLS beat Springfield Catholic 25-11, 25-8, 25-22.

Several seniors had strong matches for the orange and black.

Danielle King had 4 kills, 5 assists, 9 points, 4 digs, and 2 blocks.

Tessa Bailey tallied 19 assists, 13 points, and 3 digs.

Melissa Lee had 1 assist and 6 points with 1 ace.

Tessa Frye had 1 dig.

The Lady Tigers open tournament play October 16th at Brookville.

The JV Lady Tigers lost to Springfield Catholic 20-25, 25-21, 13-25.

Tessa Frye had 9 kills and 6 points.

Chelsea Powell and Ashton Peraza had 7 points apiece.

The JV team went 10-11 this season.

Riverside hosted Ridgemont in a Volley for the Cure match.

The Pirates won 25-12, 25-9, 25-12.

Taylor Leiss had 12 points, 6 aces, and 6 kills.

Victoria Thompson had 9 points, 10 kills, and 5 blocks.

Courtney Hurley recorded 9 points, 3 aces, and 5 kills.

Amelia Carter had 9 kills and 2 blocks.

Erica Snapp added 12 points.

Head coach Brooxie Crouch said, "All the girls played great and they had fun playing. They had great support from the fans and community and it was a very good turnout for the Volley for the Cure. Now we have to get prepared for Thursday against Fairbanks for the league title. The girls know they are going have to be mentally and physically ready to step into Fairbanks territory on Thursday.  I have faith in them and I'm very proud of how their teamwork has come along during the year."

The Pirates are 15-6 overall and 6-0 in the NWCC.

They will visit Fairbanks Thursday for the league title.

The Riverside JV team beat Ridgemont 25-20, 25-21.

Christine Longbrake and Ashley Jones each had 7 points and Heather Titus had 6 points.

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade team handled Northeastern 25-6, 25-19.

Addie Kendall had 7 kills, Maria Daulton had 4 kills, and Meggan Gantz added 7 aces.

The Lady Tigers are now 14-1 overall and 13-1 in the OHC.

The Indian Lake junior high teams swept Benjamin Logan.

The 8th grade Lakers won 21-25, 25-18, 25-18.

Mikaela Oyer led the way with 3 aces, 9 kills, 6 blocks, and perfect on serve receive.

Jessica Green added 2 aces and 3 kills.

Kara and Kelsey Allison had strong serving games and shined on defense.

For the Raiders, Ciarra Wirick had a team high 6 kills.

Brooklyn Terrill had 4 kills.

Melina Hilty recorded 10 points.

Jessica Yoder played a very strong match coming up with key digs.

Benjamin Logan will travel to Reid on Wednesday for the last game of the regular season.

The 7th grade Lakers won 25-15, 25-23.

Ashlee King had 3 kills and was perfect on serve receive.

Brianna Fry was 6 for 7 serving.

Allison Knief tallied 4 kills.

The Lakers finish their regular season Wednesday night at Mad River.

For Benjamin Logan, Taylor Quay had 1 ace and 3 kills.

Sydney Evans recorded 3 aces.

Haley Reschke added 2 kills.

Caitie Johnson and Ashtin Millsap each had a kill.

The Bellefontaine 7th grade team defeated Reid 25-17, 25-14.

Carley Strzalka had 8 points.

Casey Scott, Christina Kinchen, and Jordan Lininger each added 5 points.

The Chieftains are 13-1.
