With approximately 4 weeks to go, the Logan County United Way campaign is approaching the 30% mark with close to $213,510 pledged thus far.

Jack Reser and Terri Schneider, campaign co-chairs, indicate that their volunteers are busy distributing materials to local businesses and individuals. They lauded the efforts of these volunteers noting that "volunteers" are the heart and soul of the local United Way. (Audio interview included.)

"The reason that we can keep our administration and fundraising expenses at less than 14.5% is because of the willingness of community members to give, not only of their money, but also of their time" states Ms. Schneider. She adds, "as a result, the majority of the money raised is going directly to help the people in Logan County through one of our 24 agencies or through special grants awarded throughout the year."

Schneider has been impressed with the first month of the campaign.

Listen to her comments.

Beginning on October 15th, Wal-Mart shoppers will see the dollars raised put to good use as Warm Clothes for Kids volunteers shop with eligible school age children from the city and county to purchase a warm coat, pants, shoes and undergarments. Volunteers will meet at Wal-mart every Monday and Wednesday between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. Anyone interested in "shopping" with the families can call the United Way office for more information. This year Warm Clothes for Kids will receive $40,000.

Those with questions or wishing to contribute can call the United Way at 592-2886, stop by the office at 122 N. Main St., Bellefontaine or visit the web site at http://www.uwlogan.org/ for more information.
