The Riverside varsity spikers beat Houston 25-17, 25-20, 25-18 to advance. Taylor Leiss led the way with 16 points and 8 kills. Courtney Hurley recorded 7 points and was 58/62 setting. Brooklynn Purtee tallied 5 points, 8 kills, and 2 blocks. Amelia Carter had 9 kills and 3 blocks. Erica Snapp recorded 3 kills and 4 blocks. Sarah Schindewolf was 19/20 on serve receive and added 2 digs. Head coach Brooxie Crouch said, "The girls did a nice job in tourney play. These girls have a lot of heart and it showed especially coming off an upset last Thursday for a league title. They are fighting their way towards a sectional final game and their goal is to win that. They are a great young team to coach and I'm looking forward to staying with them to make them the best they can be in the next couple years." The Pirates are 16-7 overall and 6-1 in the NWCC. Riverside will play Russia Wednesday night at Sidney High School in the sectional semifinal at 7 p.m. Graham upset #2 seed Indian Lake 25-15, 25-17, 25-14. The Falcons will play Benjamin Logan Wednesday night at 7:30 at Tecumseh. The Lakers finish the season 19-4. Urbana edged Dayton Carroll 25-23, 25-17, 19-25, 23-25, 16-14. The Hillclimbers will battle rival Bellefontaine Wednesday night at 6:00 at Tecumseh. The Benjamin Logan 8th grade volleyball team closed their season with a win and a loss. The Raiders beat Bellefontaine 25-15, 27-25 in the first round of the CBC volleyball tournament held at Tipp City. Kylee Smith had 7 points and Peighton Wagoner and Brooklyn Terrill had 3 kills apiece. In the semifinal, the Raiders lost to Urbana 22-25, 24-26. Marissa Wilbur tallied 6 points. Mary Kerns, Brooklyn Terrill, Ciarra Wirick, and Jessica Yoder combined for five blocks. The Raiders went 14-4. The Benjamin Logan 7th grade volleyball team lost to Urbana 21-25, 11-25. Alex Thompson had 3 aces and 1 kill. Taylor Quay recorded 1 ace and 2 kills. Jennifer Poling had 2 aces and 1 kill. Sydney Evans tallied 3 aces. The Indian Lake 8th grade volleyball team lost a hard-fought battle against Tipp City in three games. The Lakers dropped the third game 27-29.
Kara Allison had 3 aces and played great defense. Claire Maier was 9 for 9 serving with 2 aces, 5 kills, 3 blocks, and perfect on serve receive. Mikaela Oyer had 14 kills and 7 blocks. The 8th grade team finished their season 14-3. The Indian Lake 7th grade volleyball team won the CBC tournament Saturday by defeating Northwestern in 3 games (17-25, 25-21, 25-18); Bellefontaine in 2 games (25-8, 25-10); and Tipp City in 3 games (16-25, 25-21, 25-10). Haley Boberg was 45 of 49 serving with 14 aces for the day. Ashlee King was 43 of 47 serving with 14 aces for the day. Allison Knief dominated the net with 20 kills. The Lady Lakers ended their season 17-2. The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade volleyball team battled to a second place finish in the OHC tournament at Mechanicsburg. The Tigers beat Miami View in two games (25-14, 25-14). WLS then defeated Mechanicsburg in two games (25-15, 25-22). West Liberty-Salem fell to rival Triad in the title match in three games (25-14, 23-25, 16-25). |
