SUMMARY:Warriors for Wyatt 5k Run or 1Mile Walk
LOCATION:Ohio Caverns, 2210 Ohio 245 West Liberty, OH 43357
DESCRIPTION:Wyatt Wenger is an 8 year old local boy who suffered a brainstem stroke in July of this year. Up until July, Wyatt was a perfectly healthy kid who enjoyed golf, soccer, basketball and baseball. After his stroke he spent one week in Nationwide Children's Hospital, where several of the best doctors in the world came to evaluate him. Doctors were baffled that he survived the stroke and that he had minimal deficits.
Since being discharged Wyatt has developed additional complications related to his stroke. Wyatt struggles with joint pain on a daily basis. He has difficulty walking around when his pain is severe. He also suffers from shortness of breath. Wyatt's team of specialists, at Nationwide continue to search for the cause of his brainstem stroke. They have placed him on several strong medications to prevent another stroke. Because of these medications, Wyatt cannot attend public school, play contact sports or be exposed to excessive germs.
Wyatt's parents have partnered with Buckeye Service Dogs of Sunbury Ohio to adopt a service dog for him. The dog will be trained to assist Wyatt with walking around, picking up dropped objects and above all provide companionship for Wyatt while he is isolated from his friends.
A fund has been established at The Peoples Savings and Loan in West Liberty - The Wyatt Wenger Service Dog Fund.
All proceeds for the Warriors for Wyatt Run/Walk/Fun Run will go towards Wyatt's service dog fund.
