SUMMARY:The Happy Half Trainer's Half Marathon
LOCATION:Springfield High School, Springfield, OH 45501
DESCRIPTION:
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (July 12, 2012) – A group of endurance sports enthusiasts from Greater Springfield is pleased to announce the first Happy Half Trainer’s Half Marathon to be held on Saturday, August 11. The half marathon will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Springfield High School. The course will run from the high school, through historic Springfield to Yellow Springs, following the scenic downhill Simon Kenton and Little Miami Scenic Trails. The date for the Happy Half Trainer’s Half Marathon is strategically scheduled to be on the training schedule for the fall marathon season. The Happy Half is being held in memory of the three race founders’ family member who lost his battle with cancer in 2011. Proceeds from the Happy Half benefit the American Cancer Society.
Race founders informally ran the Happy Half in 2011 when they were training for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon to raise funds for their family member’s medical bills. Finding the run to be enjoyable and scenic, they decided to recreate the run on a larger scale, to help runners train for fall-season marathons, while also raising money for the American Cancer Society. All runners will receive a race day tech shirt, on-course and post-race hydration and nutrition, and support from volunteers and spectators along the way. An awards ceremony will welcome runners at the finish line, and festivities will continue for interested participants in the Village of Yellow Springs. For runners wishing to return to the race start in Springfield, free shuttle transportation can be arranged at the time of registration.
“Greater Springfield has a vibrant endurance sports community and great running courses,” said race co-director Alex Loehrer. “We are so excited to show off these assets as we help distance runners prepare for personal bests in the fall. And we’re grateful to our participants and sponsors to be able to use this race to support the excellent work of the American Cancer Society.”

“As a runner, it’s fantastic to have a training race on a beautiful course in my own community,” said race co-director and signature sponsor, Dr. Patrick Dawson of New Image Eye Center. “As a medical professional who sees avoidable fitness-related medical issues every day and whose family has been affected by cancer, I—along with my colleagues at New Image Eye Center—am delighted to support the Happy Half and to promote active lifestyles and good health in our region.” For more information about The Happy Half Trainer’s Half Marathon and to register, visit HappyHalfMarathon.com or Facebook.com/HappyHalfMarathon. The first Happy Half Trainer’s Half Marathon is being made possible thanks to area sponsors including Signature Sponsor New Image Eye Center, Pace Leader Sponsors Anytime Fitness, Live Now, Clark Schaefer Hackett, and Genessa Health Marketing and Apparel Partner FrontRunner. Proceeds from the race benefit the American Cancer Society.
