DESCRIPTION:The 2012 Ruth I. Bentley Memorial Ride
   It’s that time again!  Bikers from all over the state are gearing up for the Simon Kenton Pathfinders’ 13th Annual Bike Ride on Sunday, September 9, 2012.  Starting at the Depot Coffee House at 644 Miami Street in Urbana, riders may either ride  the Simon Kenton Trail for 15 miles, a metric half century or a metric century.  In layman’s terms, that’s thirty or sixty miles in beautiful, scenic Champaign County.  Regardless of the route, past riders never fail to remark on the breathtaking views they experience on our rides.  If you haven’t participated in one of our rides, please consider joining the fun.       Information on the ride, including a registration form, is posted on our website, www.simonkentonpathfinders.org.  A continental breakfast and lunch are served at the Depot, including our famous bean soup and our trail mix, and our SAGs provide support to riders during the ride. All the food is donated, so by the way, thank you to our generous members and friends in the community!                                                 The proceeds from the ride support an endowment fund for the purpose of maintaining the Simon Kenton Trail, and raising funds for the continuation of the path northward to Bellefontaine. Last year the newest section was completed, from the Depot on Miami Street to just west of the Urbana Airport.  If you haven’t been on that section yet, check it out!  Urbana is being considered as a possible hub for trails going east and west.  Our dream of being an asset to the community has been reached, and the future development of trails only sweetens the deal.  Already we meet riders who are coming into Urbana from towns all the way down to Cincinnati, looking for a rest stop with refreshments.  They are bringing their business to Urbana because of the bike path. This ride is our primary fundraiser for the year.  If you use the trail, if you just like the idea of Urbana/Champaign County having a trail, if you appreciate that a trail might well attract homebuyers to our community, won’t you consider a donation to support our current trail and the northern extension?  Checks may be made payable to the Simon Kenton Pathfinders, P.O.
