In an effort to keep Bellefontaine area seniors safe and secure while driving, the Bellefontaine AAA store is holding a spring CarFit event:
Date: May 15, 2013
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Location: South end of the Bellefontaine AAA store parking lot, 1790 S. Main St.
Who: All area seniors and their families are invited to attend. No appointments are necessary.
CarFit gives drivers a quick, comprehensive look of how well they “fit” in their vehicles. A trained professional runs each CarFit participant through a 12-point CarFit checklist to check for optimum and safe settings, including line of sight above the steering wheel, proper mirror settings and more.
According to CarFit participant data, the top four “fit” challenges for older drivers include:
- Improper distance from the steering wheel (59 percent)
- Adequate and safe views from side mirrors (32 percent)
- Improper seat height (28 percent)
- Improper head restraint height (21 percent)
After running through the CarFit program, 97 percent of these issues are resolved, according to a recent CarFit participant survey.
Senior drivers can find more information on the CarFit program, along with expert advice and research-based tools, on AAA’s senior mobility website, SeniorDriving.AAA.com.
