West Liberty area 16th Annual Ice Cream Social Benefit to Aid Triad Music Teacher’s Family

The West Liberty United Methodist Church, West Liberty United Church of Christ and the West Liberty Lions Club are again joining their hearts and hands to help a West Liberty family with their financial needs after the mother has had 13 surgeries with 12 occuring in the last 18 months.  The benefit will be behind the West Liberty United Methodist Church at 202 West Newell St. on Saturday July 26, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:30.

The family includes Paul and Leslie Waibel and their 2 daughters, 8year old Anna and Olivia who just turned 2.  Paul has been the Triad High School and Middle School Vocal Music Teacher for 7 years.  Leslie is a Physical Therapy Assistant but has been unable to work due to the surgeries and recovery. Paul is originally from Coshocton and attended Otterbein University.  He came to West Liberty to teach at Triad. He then went to Vandercook College of music for his Masters in Music.  Leslie is the daughter of Cheryl and Donald Coleman,Jr.  of North Lewisburg and is a graduate  of Triad High School.  She completed her training for a Physical Therapist Assistant at Clark State in Springfield.

In 2007 Leslie was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition, Pseudotumor Cerebri, and surgery prevented the loss of her eyesight.  Shortly after the birth of Olivia the first solution failed and a new  diagnosis of  another rare neurological condition, Chiari Malformation, began to complicate the first condition.  Since that diagnosis she has had 12 surgeries with the last one on April 28, 2014.  Another name for the condition is Intracranial Hypertension which refers to too much cerebral spinal fluid.  Since the surgeries involve problems in the brain and spinal cord, they are all very major.

Bill Purk and friends will be there for musical entertainment and there will be an ala carte menu of Chicken and Noodles, Hot Chicken Sandwiches, Sloppy Joes, Hot Dogs, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Slaw, Pasta Salad, Apple Salad, Jell-o Salad, Pie, Cake, Drinks, and HOMEMADE ICE CREAM.

To make a donation, please make checks payable to the West Liberty United Methodist Church and write Waibel benefit in the memo and mail to the West Liberty United Methodist Church P.O. Box 606 West Liberty, Ohio 43357. If you have any question please call Nancy Dowden at 937-465-4219.
