March 2015
Four-Way Test Speech Contest
1:00 AM - 1:00 AM

Preparations are underway for the local Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest to be held on March 2, 2015 at the regular Bellefontaine Rotary Club meeting. The event is open to high school-age students throughout Logan County.  Local high schools may hold their own Speech Contest to select participants to compete in the Bellefontaine Rotary Four-Way Test Speech Contest on March 2.

Rotary International adopted the Four-Way Test as a measure for Rotarian interactions at work and in their personal lives. While thinking through “Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?” – The Four-Way Test – anyone can make sure whatever he or she is about to do or add to a conversation is appropriate and helpful.

The Rotary Four-Way Speech Contest is a chance for students to apply the test to their personal lives and experiences while talking about the concepts of leadership and service to others. Through a memorized four to six minute speech, students can share how the Four-Way Test applies to their service projects at school or church, or how it helps them become better students academically or how it is true in their interactions with siblings, friends, and team members.

“We are hoping to draw experienced speakers – maybe students who have been in theater productions or in speech classes – as well as students who are first-time speakers who can take the Rotary Four-Way Test and tell us how it applies in their lives,” said Sally Stolly, Chair for the local event.

Each of the 52 clubs in Rotary District 6670 is able to send a local high school age contestant to the District Competition at Wright State University. That competition is Sunday, March 22, 2015, which is why preparations are underway now for local competitions.

For more information such as the contest guidelines and judging form, students are encouraged to contact their high school offices, their high school Interact Advisor, or the committee Chair listed below.  Local cash prizes awarded by the Bellefontaine Rotary Club include:  $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place, and $50 for 3rd place.  District Level cash prizes include:  $400 for 1st place, $300 for 2nd place, $200 for 3rd place, and $100 for 4th place.

March 2, 2015 is the date for the Bellefontaine Rotary Club competition held at the Friendly Senior Center from 12 noon to 1pm, however, students can start planning now.  Contact information is below:
