First responders were called to a barn fire Friday afternoon in Champaign County.
Crews were dispatched just before 4 p.m. to the 2500 block of River Road.
Fire officials said the blaze involved a barn full of hay, which had already collapsed before the first crew arrived.
Heavy black smoke was reported, and mutual aid was requested immediately.
Fire departments from Urbana, St. Paris, and Rosewood responded, along with Macochee EMS for support.
Crews were able to contain the fire to the barn, and Urbana Engine 96 secured a water supply across the road.
Firefighters remained on scene until about 7 p.m.
No injuries were reported, the barn is a total loss, and the cause remains under investigation.
The West Liberty Fire Department said on social media,
“We also want to thank the neighbors who stepped in with heavy equipment to help control spread of fire. It takes a community to make a difference in the lives of many and I am proud to be a part of this community.
