A city man who was passed out behind the wheel was arrested on multiple charges Thursday night around midnight.
The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that William Hampton, 38, of 224 South Detroit Street, Apt. 1, was slumped over the wheel of a 2006 Honda Pilot at Speedway, 329 South Main Street.
The motor was running and the vehicle was in drive when officers responded.
Authorities knocked on the window to wake Hampton. He put the vehicle in park and told officers he went to the gas station to buy drinks and snacks.
Hampton, who seemed lethargic, admitted to having a few drinks earlier in the evening.
He refused sobriety tests and a breath test.
Authorities recovered a pipe used for smoking marijuana in Hampton's coat pocket.
He denied having any drugs on him.
After Hampton was transported to the Logan County Jail, a corrections officer found a metal container in his right sock. The container contained 4 1/2 oxycodone pills.
Hampton was charged with felony counts of possession of drugs and illegal conveyance into a detention facility along with misdemeanor counts of OVI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was lodged in the jail.
