The Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club heard a presentation about the Heartland facilities in Logan County Thursday.
Admissions/Marketing Director Kandie Horton spoke about Heartland of Bellefontaine and Indian Lake. The Bellefontaine facility has 99 beds and the Indian Lake branch has 51.
Horton explained that with the changes in healthcare, nursing facilities are not what they were 20 years ago.
Heartland is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. As hospital stays are now much shorter than the past, many times patients need care and rehabilitation to prepare for returning to their homes. Skilled nursing facilities are here to provide that service with physical therapy, speech therapy, and many other services to assist the patient during this transition time.
Horton discussed that 90 percent of their admitted patients last year went home. The idea is to get the patient better and stronger so they can care for themselves.
The Bellefontaine Kiwanis Club will meet again in Café 212 on July 17th at noon.
