The West Mansfield Village Council met Monday evening. They passed an ordinance requiring solicitors in the village to get a permit before peddling their wares.
The ordinance would require the individual or group to pay a $25 permit fee per day, per organization. The solicitor would have to get their permit at the village office during regular hours.
An ordinance was passed related to council wages. This was to ensure that members be paid for the extra responsibilities and meetings they attend during the month so that they are compensated accordingly.
Another ordinance was passed with supplemental monies being allocated: $1,500 for RITA, the company that collects the village income taxes, up to $20,000 for painting the water tower, and up to $15,000 for paving, with Quality Paving of Belle Center doing the work.
A Planning and Safety meeting was held on Monday with Ed Kise giving a report.
Council had preliminary discussion on getting Bokescreek Township or the village of Rushsylvania to partner with them to hire the Logan County Sheriff’s Office to have an increased presence in patrolling the village.
Council estimated it would take about $60,000 annually to pay for the increased presence by law enforcement, to be divided between the parties involved.
Possible ways to raise the money included receiving grant money or a police protection levy.
Fiscal officer Dave Evans shared this message with village residents.
Resolutions were passed, one to begin the process for OPWC street resurfacing funding, the other regarding delinquent water bills.
The resurfacing will be done from the traffic light on West Center Street to the edge of town.
If a resident had not paid their water bill for several months, they would be added to a delinquent water bill list and their water could be turned off.
If the delinquency continued the unpaid amount could be added on to their real estate taxes.
Mayor Scott Robinson talked about the resolutions and ordinances that were passed.
Employee evaluations will be held starting Friday at 9:00 am
The next meeting of West Mansfield Village Council is Thursday, September 11th at 6:30 p.m.
