Ohio Hi-Point Career Center board members learned about a new online service that will allow students to pay for their lunches through the use of credit card. Superintendent Dr. Rick Smith told the board that parents will get information about the process when the students take their grade cards home. Parents must go to the district's website and click the Middle School and High School tab.
Career tech supervisor Brad Richardson told the board about the development of two new pathways that will be available in the fall of 2018. Smart technologies, in cooperation with local manufacturers and businesses, OSU and Clark State, will study autonomous vehicles, drones and mobilized devices. The program is possible through a large donation from the Sloan Foundation.
The other will be called applied manufacturing. The hope is to have fifteen to twenty students in each program.
In the organizational meeting, Anne Reames from Bellefontaine was re-elected as president. Bill Ramsey from Benjamin Logan was re-elected vice president. Both are starting their tenth year in these positions. They both became board members in 2004. Paul McMahill from Mechanicsburg was elected as the OSBA delegate.
As part of the Career Center's “Celebrations” objective, Dr. Smith recognized Riverside satellite teachers Lindsay Wyan (business teacher) and Michelle Weadock (media arts and radio station). Wyan and Weadock were mentioned in Techniques Magazine. The magazine is geared toward career tech educators.

Treasurer Eric Adelsberger told the board he is beginning to dispose of district assets through Public Surplus, an online auction site. Adelsberger hopes that more income can be generated by selling the items online.
Adam Grillot from Houston, who's a 2016 Defiance College graduate, was named new Communications Coordinator.
Alyssa Dunham is the new board member from Urbana. She replaced Warren Stevens who passed away.
The board will next meet on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7:00 pm.
