Two cows struck near West Liberty; owner charged

A teen driver struck two cows on County Road 1 just south of County Road 5 Thursday night around 9:50.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office reports that Drew Smith, 19, of Urbana, was driving a 2010 Kia Soul northbound on 1 when several cows entered the roadway.

Smith struck two cows, then went off the left side of the road.

His vehicle came to rest in the ditch.

Smith, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured.

The cows are owned by Donald Boysel of East Liberty.

He was charged with one count of animals at large.

Both cows were killed.

Smith's vehicle had heavy damage.
