Jury convicts man for Indian Lake shooting

Scott SteinA two-day jury trial quickly concluded Wednesday afternoon in Logan County Common Pleas Court when jurors convicted a man for a 2016 shooting at Kings Landing.

Scott Stein, 47, of Celina, was found guilty on charges of felonious assault and shooting into a habitation.

The charges stem from a shootout at 8981 Hilltop Drive, Lakeview, between Stein and Jason Davidson, 40, of Dayton.

Testimony indicated that Stein came to Indian Lake armed with two handguns to recover property stolen from a Celina storage unit.

The owner of the home on Kings Landing tackled Stein and the shootout occurred wounding Stein.

On April 28th, 2016 deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of gunshots on Hilltop Drive around 10:35 p.m.

Deputies located spent shell casings, blood, and signs of an assault at 8981 Hilltop Drive. No one was located at the residence.

At 11:43 p.m., deputies were notified by the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office that Stein was undergoing treatment at Joint Township Hospital in St. Marys for gunshot wounds.

Stein reported that he had been shot while in the Indian Lake area.

The jury of nine men and three women deliberated about an hour convicting Stein of the two charges with gun specifications.

A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is set for August 23rd.

Logan County Prosecutor Eric Stewart presented the State’s case.

Appointed attorney Steve Chamberlain of Lima represented the defendant.

Assigned Judge Mark O’Connor presided.
