Making the holidays “brighter” for the community (Audio & video included)

The vision of one woman and the support of her family is helping to spread a little cheer to passersby this holiday season.

Courtney Russell, of 520 Ludlow Road, Bellefontaine, started to put up her Christmas lights in September. She wrapped up the process by November.

The display features well over 15,000 lights. Lights cover the trees on her property and illuminated arches line her driveway. Lighted silhouettes sit in the yard and lights even cover the house. A projector also shines a waving Santa Claus in the front window.

The highlight of the display is the American flag lit up on the roof. She says she did the flag in honor of our country's veterans and active service members. Courtney said that it was important to her to have the flag up by Veterans' Day.

She just wants to make the holidays brighter for others.

Russell has been building her light collection over the last four years. She has purchased her lights at most of the typical department and hardware stores.

The lights are powered by a generator which uses about five gallons of gas a night.

The family plans to add inflatable decorations in the coming years. Another goal of the family is to synchronize the lights to music, but that will not be for a few more years. She is always looking to make her display better.
