City man charged with felony domestic violence, assaults fiancé with belt

Michael Cole Jr.A city man was arrested on a felony charge after he assaulted his fiancé at their 409 Clark Avenue home Tuesday night around 8:25.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Michael Cole Jr., 44, got into a dispute with the victim.

A physical altercation ensued.

Cole, who is 6'5” and weighs 330 lbs, hit the woman with a belt, grabbed her by the neck, pushed her to the ground, and smacked her cell phone out of her hand when she attempted to call 911.

Officers noticed red welts on her left arm consistent with belt lashings and red marks on her neck.

The victim's 14-year-old son witnessed the attack and called 911.

Cole fled before officers arrived.

Moments later, he was found at 501 South Troy Road and taken into custody.

Cole denied striking his fiancé.

He said she did it to herself to get him in trouble.

Cole became enraged at the Logan County Jail.

He screamed and kicked corrections officers.

Pepper spray was used to subdue him.

Cole was then placed in a restraint chair.

He was charged with felony domestic violence.

The charge is a felony because of a prior domestic violence conviction.
