Riverside BPA has strong competition at UNOH

The Riverside Business Professionals of America (BPA) chapter recently brought home numerous honors during the Region 16 awards ceremony at the UNOH event center.

Riverside students were called to the stage 80 times at the ceremony for placing in the top six spots.

Riverside students received 15 of the 16 regional Torch Awards. The Business Professionals of America's Torch Awards Program is designed to promote professionalism and leadership in both career development and personal growth. Students complete activities in the seven Torch categories: Leadership, Service, Cooperation, Knowledge, Friendship, Love, Hope, Faith, and Patriotism; then log their activities in an online Torch Résumé.

Three students were also accepted as state conference interns, gaining real world event management experience.

Riverside had 21 students advance to the BPA State Leadership Conference in Columbus in March. Many of the students will also receive their BPA Statesman Torch Award.

The Riverside BPA chapter includes more than 120 high school students. This year, more than 100 students took more than 400 contests to the two week-regional competition.

The Riverside BPA advisors are Lindsay Wyan, instructor for the Riverside/OHPCC Business and Administration Services program and Michelle Weadock, instructor for Riverside/OHPCC Media Arts Program.
