Drunk driver arrested in Bellefontaine; caught after brief foot pursuit

Michael SteinemanA drunk driver was arrested on multiple charges following a traffic stop in the city Sunday morning around 12:45.

The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Michael Steineman, 32, of Huntsville, drove outside the marked lanes on West Columbus Avenue near Main Street.

After the light turned green, Steineman waited approximately five seconds before turning northbound on Main Street.

He then weaved in his lane and made several sudden corrections.

His truck crossed the centerline several times and nearly struck the curb.

Steineman turned east on Palmer Avenue.

He failed to stop at the stop sign on Palmer at North Park Street.

Officers stopped Steineman in the 600 block of North Park.

Authorities noticed signs of impairment.

Steineman's eyes were bloodshot.

He admitted to having three mixed drinks.

Steineman failed field sobriety tests.

He fled while officers were walking him to their cruiser.

Steineman was quickly taken into custody.

His blood alcohol level was .175, which is more than twice the legal limit.

Steineman was charged with OVI, resisting arrest, failure to drive in marked lanes, and weaving.

He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
