Local man sentenced on sex charge

Two defendants were sentenced and three pleaded guilty before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark O'Connor earlier this week.

William Baumgardner (pictured), 22, of Zanesfield, was sentenced to thirty days in the Logan County Jail, five years community control, two-hundred hours of community service, and ordered to pay court costs and attorney fees for importuning. Baumgardner was also labeled a Tier I sex offender and must report his address to the sheriff annually for fifteen years.

On May 3rd, Baumgardner pleaded guilty.

In September, he was indicted for unlawful sex with a minor (F4), importuning (F5), and falsification (M1).

On June 23rd, the Logan County Sheriff's Office charged Baumgardner with one count of rape.

The victim was a girl under the age of 15 from Jefferson Township.

Deputies started their investigation after receiving a complaint from the victim's family.

Baumgardner was also charged with two counts of probation violation.

JD Crawford (pictured), 30, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to two years in prison and given a one-year license suspension for possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs.

On May 3rd, Crawford pleaded guilty.

In November, Crawford was arrested on felony drug charges following a traffic stop on County Road 10 at Route 33.

The State Highway Patrol stopped the vehicle and contacted the Bellefontaine Police Department.

Crawford was arrested on a warrant for two counts of trafficking marijuana.

Crawford admitted to swallowing 30-35 balloons of black tar heroin moments before the traffic stop.

He was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by Tri-Valley EMS.

The Logan County Joint Drug Task Force charged Crawford with possession of heroin, trafficking heroin, and tampering with evidence.

Andrew Moore, 24, of East Liberty, pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.

Phillip Klaas, 18, of Lewistown, pleaded guilty to burglary and two counts of theft of a motor vehicle.

Presentence investigations were ordered and sentencings are scheduled for July 9th.

Roger Coleman, 53, of Russells Point, pleaded guilty to pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor. A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for July 16th.
