Bellefontaine City Council welcomes DeSomma back (Audio included)

A familiar face returned to Bellefontaine City Council Tuesday.

Peter DeSomma was named to fill the unexpired term of Third Ward Councilman Brian Evans, who resigned earlier this year when he took a job that conflicted with the council schedule.

DeSomma is no stranger to the Bellefontaine City Council, having most recently served until he was defeated for reelection this past November.

"I'm very happy to be back," DeSomma said following the meeting. "I look at it as a responsibility and paying back a community that has been very good to me."

In his first meeting back, DeSomma and the rest of the council passed an ordinance approving the resurfacing of the portions of US Route 68 and State Route 47 which lie within the city. The council also approved the hiring of personnel who will operate the Waste Water Treatment plant and the hiring of a seasonal employee who will spend the summer months working for the Water Department.

In other news, both Mayor Adam Brannon and Service-Safety Director Jim Holycross praised those who worked on repairing the huge water main break on South Main Street Saturday, which kept the city under a boil water advisory until Tuesday. Brannon reported that water samples sent to the lab following the repair showed no traces of harmful bacteria.

SSD Holycross said his office has received an increase in property maintenance issues reported the last few weeks, which is common this time of year.

Law Director Howard Traul asked council to schedule a hearing involving a request from Paul Dearwester that the alley at 437 W. Chillicothe be vacated, a request that all property owners affected have agreed.

Kris Myers, Superintendent of the Joint Parks and Recreation District, told council that the new liner installed at the Hoffman Pool is working well and that the pool is holding water as well as it ever has since its construction in 1969.

Council meets again on June 26th at 7:30 p.m.
