The armed bank robbery suspect who barricaded himself in a Sidney hotel room surrendered late last night.
The man was escorted out of the Travelodge by law enforcement officers, ending a standoff that lasted more than eight hours.
Carl Bruce Norton Jr. (pictured), 21, of Trotwood, was taken into custody.
Negotiations continued late into Monday evening with Norton, who is suspected of robbing a nearby Chase bank Monday afternoon. A Sidney SWAT team, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, and the State Highway Patrol surrounded the hotel at 2009 W. Michigan St. after a black male dressed in a black hoodie and mask ran into the hotel.
The Chase Bank at 2030 W. Michigan St. was robbed around 3:15 p.m. Police and deputies responding to the robbery saw the suspect run to the hotel.
Law enforcement officers moved bystanders away from the complex after Norton threatened to begin firing a gun.
Traffic on State Route 47 near the hotel was blocked during the standoff.
No one was injured.
Norton was charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping. He was lodged in the Shelby County Jail early this morning.
