The Riverside Board of Education conducted their regular monthly session Tuesday night.
Highlighting the meeting was the board's approval of two projects that were presented at a special session on June 7th.
Waibel Trane Company will fix problems in the Variable Air Volume control boxes, which control the air flow for the heating and cooling systems. The problems are normal wear and tear for a ten-year-old building. Waibel Trane will also install CO2 sensors that keep the buildings at a more consistent temperature. Installing the sensors is an energy conservation measure.
The Western Ohio Computer Organization out of Sidney will install wireless internet in the district. Incoming superintendent Scott Mann is excited about the possibilities noting that students who possess laptops can have more flexibility in obtaining internet access.
Preliminary Race to the Top scores were announced. Riverside reached 20 of 26 indicators, down one indicator from last year. Mann though quickly pointed out that percentage growth at several of the grade levels was significant. Sixth-grade math scores increased 16%.
Superintendent Mann shared with the board the initial plans for a project called Seven Keys to Happy Students. The program goals include promoting students taking active leadership and ownership in their buildings. Bellefontaine City Schools have adopted a similar program with significant positive results.
The board approved the hiring of Intervention Specialists Darcie Jenkins and Derrick Purtee.
