Severe thunderstorm rocks Logan County (Audio included)

A strong thunderstorm did extensive damage across Logan County Friday afternoon.

There were hundreds of downed trees and several downed power lines throughout the county.

Staff Meteorologist Steve Horstmeyer says the damage was caused by straight line winds that reached 80 miles per hour in Bellefontaine.

Crews from the city and county spent much of the late afternoon and evening clearing the wreckage.

The south edge of the Logan County Courthouse clock tower sustained damage (pictured above). A large white piece of the tower was ripped off and landed in the alley near 119 South Madriver Street.

A barn was destroyed (pictured right) near Bloom Center at the intersection of County Road 21 and Township Road 80.

There were power outages scattered across the county and many activities were canceled.

DP&L issued an update stating that power restoration could take multiple days. They have every crew available out. Fallen power lines and electrical fires take top priority. DP&L asks residents to treat all fallen wires as live and stay away. To report fallen lines to DP&L call 877-468-8243.

Logan County was under a severe thunderstorm warning from 4:00 from 4:45.

Straight line winds did damage in Auglaize, Delaware, and Franklin counties.

Winds reached 82 miles per hour near St. Marys. A large boat that was docked on the east shore of Grand Lake St. Marys was lifted and moved to a nearby street.

There were no reports of storm-related injuries.
