Saturday, just after 9:00pm, Christina Whitaker returned home to find the front door of her apartment at 600 Lincoln Boulevard standing open.
Whitaker flagged down a Russells Point police officer and reported the suspected break-in, stating the door was locked when she left.
Officers found an adult male unconscious in the back bedroom.
The male, Ryan Powell, 27, of Rushsylvania, seemed incoherent and refused to follow officers' orders. When the officers tried to rouse Powell, he began to fight with them, causing them to use a Taser to gain control.
Once in custody, Powell was escorted outside where Whitaker identified him as her boyfriend. Ms. Whitaker stated Powell stayed there from time to time.
Russells Point Police Chief Joe Freyhof (pictured) began to explain the incident to Mr. Powell, who seemed to be coming to his senses. Mr. Powell became argumentative and grabbed the cruiser's protective window bars. He attempted to slam the police cruiser door shut and caught Chief Freyhof’s arm and hand in the door, causing minor injuries.
Powell was charged with assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and persistent disorderly conduct. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
