The pie competition took place at the Logan County Fair on Wednesday. There were a total of 80 pies entered into the competition.
Nancy Dowden (she is pictured right tasting pies) of West Liberty worked as the judge for the pie competition. She had many tidbits of advice for pie bakers including to bake your pie on the bottom shelf of the oven if you are using an aluminum pan because this will help your bottom crust to brown. She also reminded the pie bakers to make sure their pans were dry before baking a pie in them because if the pan is damp the pie crust will stick to it when someone tries to cut a piece of the pie. Lastly, Dowden shared this wisdom with the crowd, "if you don't have a good, flaky crust, you don't have a good pie."
