The winner of this competition receives a traveling trophy, which their name is engraved on, that they get to keep for a year until the next Showman of Showmen competition.
The competitors in this event are the 5 youth that have won Senior Showmanship awards throughout the week of the fair. The 5 participants are the Showmanship winners of either the goat, lamb, swine, steer, or dairy competitions.
Winners of the 5 Senior Showmanship awards were:
Dairy - Kris Ackley
Steer - Hillary Jackson (pictured right showing dairy)
Goat - Drew Buroker
Swine - Cody Logan
Lamb - Amber Hites
Each contestant must show all of the 5 animals listed above. The person with the highest score after showing all 5 animals wins.
This year there was a tie after the final showing between Cody Logan (pictured) and Hillary Jackson. The judge decided since these two both had the least knowledge on goats, they would be asked a question about goats and whomever answered correctly would be named Showman of Showmen. The question was "how many different breeds of dairy goats are there?" Logan answered correctly with an answer of 5 different breeds. Cody Logan of Middleburg was then named Showman of Showmen.
Listen to Logan talk about how the competition affected his view of showing animals that he usually does not.
