Alcohol a factor in local motorcycle crash

Troopers from the Springfield Post of the State Highway Patrol responded to an alcohol-related motorcycle crash in rural Champaign County near Woodstock Sunday morning just after 2 o'clock.

Stephen Straight, 44, of West Jefferson, was traveling southbound on State Route 559 just north of U.S. Route 36 on his Harley-Davidson Heritage Soft-Tail motorcycle when an unknown animal crossed his path, which caused him to apply brakes. He then lost control of his motorcycle.

Straight and his wife, Melissa, were ejected from the motorcycle and sustained injuries.

Stephan Straight was transported to Mercy Hospital in Urbana by the Urbana E.M.S. Mrs. Straight was flown to Miami Valley Hospital by CareFlight. She is in critical condition.

The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, Urbana E.M.S., and the Northeast Champaign County E.M.S. assisted at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation.
