Logan County Veteran's Services aids local veterans by assisting them with benefits and helping them file health claims.
One benefit offered to Gulf War veterans reimburses them for their time served. The Ohio Veterans Bonus gives $50 or $100 a month to veterans who served during either Gulf conflict. Any serviceman serving from August 2nd, 1990 to March 3rd, 1991 and from October 7th, 2001 to present is eligible for the reimbursement. Any veteran serving outside the Gulf area can receive $50 per month or up to $500 as a one-time payment. Veterans that served in the Gulf region are eligible for $100 to $1,000 a month. Veterans fitting both categories could receieve up to $1,500. The veteran must also be an Ohio resident and maintain that status when filing for and receiving the benefits. The Ohio Veteran's Bonus for the first Gulf War expires December 31st, 2013.
Health claims for Vietnam veterans can also provide benefits. Any soldier serving in Vietnam can file a health claim against coronary artery disease, Type-2 diabetes, Parkinson's Disease, and respiratory and prostate cancers. The claim could allow them to receive monthly income that is not tax based. If a Vietnam veteran has already died from one of the listed diseases and their spouse is surviving, they are eligible to file a claim.
During Logan County Fair week, Logan County Veteran's Services had a booth in the Merchants Building. Also during the fair, they were in the tent while veterans and seniors got their free meals to raise awareness about their organization. This year during Veteran's Day at the fair, the group worked to recognize the Korean veterans.
The organization can accept donations and personal hygiene items such as shaving cream, soap, toothpaste, and deodorant. The non-profit agency can also accept gas and grocery gift cards to help veterans.
