A large crowd attended the Market Swine Sale on Thursday at the Champaign County Fair.
All animals in the sale are terminal, meaning they will be going out to the consumer.
Sam Warye of Urbana was the Champion Market Overall Barrow. He is the son of Dave and Angie Warye and belongs to the 4-H Market Barrow Quality Pork Producers club. His hog weighed 248 pounds, and went for $2,000. Buyers included Lensman Showpigs ($400), Warye Showpigs ($400), Petty Family ($100), Mike and Emily Bumgardner ($100), Walter & Smith Funeral Home ($300), and Mutual Farms ($200).
Kalie Purk of St. Paris was the Champion Market Gilt. She is the daughter of Tim Purk and belongs to the 4-H Market Gilt Westside Livestock club. Her hog weighed 260 pounds and went for $1,000. Buyers included First Central National Bank ($100), Westville Grain Company ($100), Tri-Ag products ($100), Lena Ag Center ($150), Purk Farms Pioneer Seeds ($150), Purk Ag Lime ($150), Erwin Chrystler Jeep Dodge ($50), Heritage Co-op ($100), and Melvin and Sue Cook ($100).
Oliver McGuire of Urbana was the Reserve Champion Market Barrow. He is the son of Michael and Tonya McGuire and belongs to the $-H Market Barrow Backyard Belles and Boys club. His hog weighed 256 pounds and went for $2,000. Buyers included BP Swine Genetics ($100), JS Transit ($100), Havens Farms ($100), JR's Garage ($75), Dullins Drainage ($300), Mike and Emily Bumgardner ($100), Buzzard Barn Truck Sales ($100), Culland Ag and Transport ($100), and John Astorino Family ($100).
Austin Black of Mechanicsburg was the Reserve Champion Market Gilt. He is the son of Paul and Jody Black and belongs to the FFA Market Gilt Mechanicsburg FFA club. His hog weighed 250 pounds and went for $1,800. Buyers inlcuded Advantage Bank ($100), Trupointe Co-op ($400), SFI Supplements ($75), Kalm Bach Feeds ($75), ASE Feed and Supply ($100), Jon Berry Family ($100), Showmaker Farms ($100), Chris Hodge Family ($550), Holy Russel Farms ($100), Vernon Funeral Home ($100), and Tommy Brook Salon ($100).
