At a meeting Thursday, Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District employees were commended for their clean-up efforts following the June 29th storm.
Superintendent Kris Myers commented that Mary Rutan Park had a lot of trees down and that some of the shelter houses were narrowly missed by fallen trees. At Blue Jacket Park, a ball field fence was blown over and a couple trees came down. Myers added that he could not believe how well the parks looked a month after the storm and commended the staff for their work.
Myers updated the board on the upcoming soccer season. There was a good turnout for kids to play soccer and the season starts on August 18th.
With summer winding down, the pool season is also coming to an end. The last day of the season will be Sunday, August 19th. The last two hours of pool season will be "Dog Days." During this time dogs are welcome at the pool. It is the third time the pool has done the event to end their season.
Myers discusses the meeting.
A discussion was held about the changing of the name of the youth football association Bellefontaine Blaze to the Junior Chieftains. The change was made by the association to allow the kids to feel like they were also Chieftains. The biggest concern with the change is the similarity to the name of the Little Chiefs, another Bellefontaine youth football association. The park board did not take any action on the concern, but will review it further.
