An inmate who escaped from the Logan County Jail Tuesday morning may be armed following two reported burglaries last evening.
Joseph Knox (pictured), 36, was working in the jail garden when he fled around 10:30 a.m.
The Logan County Sheriff's Office says that a suspicious male riding a red dirt bike stopped at a residence in the 5000 block of State Route 47 West and asked the resident for gas around seven p.m.
The homeowner said the man matched the description of Knox.
The Champaign County Sheriff's Office responded to a burglary in progress in the 6000 block of North Ludlow Road (near Game Farm Road) around 8:45.
The resident returned home and found a man inside.
The homeowner gave chase as the suspect fled the residence. The resident said the suspect fired shots as he fled.
The resident gave a description of the suspect that matches Knox. A dirt bike (pictured) was found near the scene.
Around ten p.m., the West Liberty Police Department responded to a burglary on North Detroit Street (near Adriel School).
The homeowner said a .22-caliber handgun and ammunition were taken from a gun safe.
Officers located a motorcycle helmet in a cemetery near the victim's home.
Knox was serving time in the Logan County Jail for contempt charges. He was also being held on a warrant for contempt out of Madison County. Knox began serving his sentence on July 19th. He was scheduled to be released on October 22nd.
A reward is available for any information that leads to his arrest.
