In front of a large crowd of associates, government and community leaders, media, and special guest Governor John Kasich, (pictured left with the new Accord) the Marysville Auto Plant unveiled the 2013 Honda Accord on Monday afternoon.
Production started Monday; the new model goes on sale next month.
The ninth generation Accord (eighth being produced in Marysville) is especially noteworthy because it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the plant becoming the first Japanese automaker in the United States. Operations began November 1, 1982. More than 9 million Accords have been produced during that time span.
Mike Fischer, manufacturing new-model leader for the Accord, feels that new design concepts like the one-piece instrument panel have created a quieter, more luxurious ride.

Three new safety features debut in this Accord: a blind-spot display which enhances visibility of the passenger side roadway, a lane departure warning system, and a forward collision warning system.
Texting, emailing and internet accessibility are popular features that will be standard on the Accord.

Plant manager Jeff Tomko is proud of the associates. There efforts to complete the project on time overcame weather tragedies in Japan and Thailand. In addition, “the new Accord will be fun to drive, offer great fuel economy and a comfortable cabin with a quiet ride.”

Hide Iwata, president and CEO of the Honda America Manufacturing, reminded those in attendance that the “Accord has been the signature vehicle and remains the industry benchmark in a very competitive segment.”
