Bellefontaine native Robert E. VanDerRoest was one of 39 cadets who graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Training Academy Thursday.
VanDerRoest and his 38 classmates were graduated after a 22-week course of intense paramilitary training at the Academy. This was the 152nd class at the Academy, where cadets were instructed in classes such as core values, crash investigation, criminal and traffic law, firearms, physical fitness, and self-defense.
Trooper David M. Brown of Canfield was selected as the class speaker at the graduation ceremony.
Trooper VanDerRoest has been assigned to the Cincinnati Metro Post.
