An overnight structure fire at a city duplex (pictured) owned by Anthony and Deborah Johnson displaced two families.
Firefighters from Bellefontaine, Tri-Valley, and Lakeview responded to a large fire at 437 1/2 East Chillicothe Avenue (across from Chillicothe Point Cleaners) just before midnight.
A passerby alerted the residents. Everyone escaped safely.
One resident suffered a medical condition, but they were not transported.
Assistant Chief T.J. Weikart reported that flames were showing from the rear of the home.
The fire started in an upstairs storage closet near a bathroom.
The cause of the accidental fire remains under investigation.
Weikart said the fire did about $36,000 worth of damage to the structure and contents.
The home did have a working smoke detector.
Fire crews were on scene for about three-and-a-half hours.
The Logan County Chapter of the American Red Cross provided the families with emergency assistance.
