An area man was arrested on multiple felony charges following a 90-minute high-speed pursuit in Champaign, Clark, Montgomery, and Greene counties Sunday afternoon.
Shane Stokes (pictured), 26, of North Lewisburg, fled when the Champaign County Sheriff's Office attempted a traffic stop on Route 68 south of Urbana around 4:15.
The pursuit, which reached speeds over 100 miles per hour, continued into Clark County.
Stokes went westbound on I-70 towards Dayton. The Clark County Sheriff's Office and Springfield Post of the State Highway Patrol terminated the pursuit on I-70 westbound at I-75.
Moments later, Stokes committed an armed robbery in Montgomery County.
The Dayton Police Department and the State Highway Patrol reinitiated the pursuit into Clark County.
Stokes then went through Springfield and Enon, then into Greene County. The pursuit continued through Yellow Springs, then headed northbound on State Route 72 towards Springfield.
Authorities deployed stop sticks at the intersection of 72 and East Possum Road. The pursuit ended when Stokes went across the stop sticks and intentionally crashed into a Clark County Sheriff's Office 2008 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Sergeant Elliot.
Stokes was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger. The pickup and the cruiser were heavily damaged.
Stokes and Elliot were transported to the Springfield Regional Medical Center.
The Springfield Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that Stokes was charged with felonious assault on a police officer, felony fleeing and eluding, possession of heroin, and possession of drug abuse instruments.
He was lodged in the Clark County Jail.
Stokes also faces charges in Champaign and Montgomery counties.
Initially, the Champaign County Sheriff's Office was trying to serve parole violation warrants to Stokes.
The crash remains under investigation.
